"John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins." People came together as they waded into the River Jordan to be cleansed. Jesus offered himself to be baptized by John, "and just as he was coming out of the water, John saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him." (Mark 1.9-11)
Baptism unites all who belong to Jesus. Baptism is the foundation of our life in Christ. Through Baptism, we enter into a new life of the risen Christ. It is a sacrament of faith bringing a person into the community of faith, the body of Christ. The faith community embraces those who are baptized as they begin to share in the life of faith and assume the responsibility of carrying on Jesus' mission.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, which is received in Baptism, the person is filled with his gifts of grace.
A Baptismal course consisting of two meetings, one with the pastor, as well as a second meeting explaining the ceremony, prayers and symbols, is required. This course is made available to assist and make sure you, the parents, are fully informed and understand the responsibility you are undertaking as you begin to bring your child up in the Roman Catholic faith. The celebration of Baptism usually takes place during one of the weekend liturgies: Saturday 4:30 pm, Sunday 9:00 am or 11:00 am
To enroll in the preparation course, please fill in the registration form and email to parish, [email protected], or call the parish office, 705-949-8883.
